| 1. Sex Bomb |
|
| Das Palast Orchester |
|
| This is the first in the array of cover
songs for this month. This song reminds me of a rather sexual Mr.
McGoo. Yah, kind'a scary. Fun party song tho. |
| |
| 2. Like A Virgin |
|
| Big Daddy |
2.9 mb |
| My mother found this song to be horrific,
but amusing. She's like "it's a remake, but instead of making
it modern, they took a modern song and dated it." I think a lot
of people will say "Oh, they took that from Moulin Rouge."
But, alas, no. This was recorded pre-Moulin Rouge. |
| |
| 3. Baby One More Time |
|
| Dweezil Zappa |
4.0 mb |
| I really don't care for Brittney Spears.
At all. And I came across this song on accident one day and I actually
really enjoyed it. It's a little rawer than Miss Spears, although
the actual song is very similar to her version. |
| |
| 4. Hotel California |
|
| Alabama 3 |
4.9 mb |
| Great song. The original was great.
This one is a little weird, true -- but it's still good. The chorus
is kind'a processed and warbled -- almost like there was a backup
choir of several demons. But hey -- makes for an interesting effect. |

| 5. 1999 |
|
| Asylum Street Spankers |
2.9 mb |
| I'm actually including another Spankers
song later in this mix, but I thought this fit well. Prince's 1999
done in a blue-grass accoustic jam session. It's live, but should
give you a taste of what type of music the Spankers play. Amazing
talent. The rest of the music is very very good and definitely worth
looking at. (And nothing beats seeing them perform live.) |
| |
| 6. Children of Jack |
|
| Guy Forsythe |
6.6 mb |
| Guy Forsythe is a former member of the
Asylum Street Spankers (although he still plays with them on occasion).
He went solo and has produced several albums. His lyrics are usually
pretty creative, and this song, in particular, is quite visual. He
has excellent skills with many-a-guitar. |
| |
| 7. Possibly Maybe |
|
| Bjork |
8.4 mb |
It's Bjork. What more needs to be
said? I really like the bridge in this song (and truthfully, is
the reason I put it on here. Who said my mixes had to have a reason.)
|
| |
| 8. Shine |
|
| Operatica |
5.3 mb |
| Operatica tends to be a bit like hip-hop
classical. Their first cd (Operatica: O) was very good, and their
follow up album is . . . eh . . . well, it's ok. This it the title
track for their latest album, and I think it is a very nice song. |
| |
| 9. Ave Maria |
|
| Sumi-Jo |
3.8 mb |
| I have had this song on several other
mixes in the past -- but this is one of my all-time favorite versions
of Ave Maria. The version by Caccini is so gorgeous and is one of
the lesser-known classics. Sumi-Jo is a well known opera singer and
her rendition of this particular song is very moving. |
| |
| 10. La Notte Etterna (remix) |
|
| Emma Shapplin |
3.5 mb |
| Emma Shapplin was a fairly popular name
in the club circuits several years ago with her hit "Spente Le
Stelle." Her album "Carmine Meo" did very very well
in Europe and everyone was awaiting her follow up. So several years
later, she releases her next album Etterna. This is the first
(and only) single from that album. |
| |
| 11. Concious |
|
| Anything Box |
7.5 mb |
| Anything Box was popular in the late
80s with their hit song "Living in Oblivion." Who knew that
they produced like 5 other albums!? The band is rather different than
it was back then. This song is several years old, but is probably
one of their better songs of recent release. |
| |
| 12. If I Were You |
|
| Asylum Street Spankers |
4.5 mb |
| This is a beautiful example of the Asylum
Street Spankers. All accoustic. All real. And Christina's voice is
perfect in every pitch, tone, and breath. ASS is based out of Austin,
Texas, but they travel extensively throught the US (and have traveled
throughout Europe in the past as well.) Visit their website
for more info. |
| |
| 13. Wait 'Till You See Him (De-Phazz Remix) |
|
| Ella Fitzgerald |
4.6 mb |
| So I'm hooked on classics. What can
I say? What a great song. What an awesome remix. Mind you, she'd prolly
die again if she heard it. This is from the Verve Remixed cd -- a
bunch of classic songs (all on the Verve label, of course) that have
been remixed and knocked up. Some of them are a bit . . . "out
there" for me. But I enjoyed this one. |
| |
| 14. Breathing Light |
|
| Nitin Sawhney |
4.6 mb |
| I love the piano in this song. It's
a kind'a eerie song in places -- but quite haunting. |
| |
| 15. Always |
|
| Bent |
5.6 mb |
| This particular song reminds me bit
of "Electronic" back in the early 90s. Until the woman starts
to sing. Then it reminds me a bit of Snow White. But that's all good.
Still a good song. :) |
